Low mornings, low pep

I'm low on sleep...again...but the awesome morning weather has been permitting me to sleep in a bit!  Low of 18C! YEAH!  I should be doing much more with it, but at least I am appreciating it.

Yesterday, I didn't run, just walked the dogs (morning and night) and did chest/arm exercises.  Today, I walked the dogs again (fortunately, they walk nicely together now, so I save some time at least although we often go for over an hour), then ran 20 min tempo on the treadmill, then had leg day.  I've been cleaning up cleans, which in turn has helped me put more weight into the squats.   That's why I show up, isn't it?

Still, I've been feeling sort of meh, uninspired, which is crazy because the wildlife as well as the weather has been pretty cool recently.   I found a new type of egg in the pond--I'm wondering if they're frog eggs because they're not in strings like the toad eggs.  I also saw a new type of lizard crawl into a hole in my porch (maybe I should be concerned about this?).  And there have been so many neat dragonflies.

Still, though...meh...and really fussy about music.  All of my faves have landed on deaf ears.  I've been adrift on some whacked out psyambient for the past three days, which has boosted productivity, but hasn't been filling the void.  Fortunately, this morning I remembered a single I liked and bought last year, youtubed the producer, and found some good honest boots&pants.   This fueled 1/3 of my tempo run!

nice morning!

It was only 19C!  The dog and I jogged for about 75 min.  What a difference!  Yesterday morning, it was in the mid-twenties and humid: jog-walking 2 miles seemed sufficient then.  Fortunately, finding a box turtle in our front yard made up for the discomfort.  I looked it up, and she is probably a female, and apparently these turtles don't have a wide range...hopefully she lives nearby.

Unfortunately, I didn't see her today, but dog #1 and I had a good run.  It was amazing.  I actually forgot where some of the hills were because I didn't feel them.  There was even a "where the heck am I?" moment in the forest when I was past a hill I was still anticipating.  It's nice when that happens.

And then I did shoulder exercises, 3 sets:

Bent over rows, single arm
Overhead press
deltoid raises, side front, back
Overhead press
bar rear delt row
Cuban press
Iron cross
rotator cuff exercises

Except I forgot the bar rear delt row every time!  Oops.

Esterific!

The plan was to get dropped off, write a 3 hr exam, jog ~5ish miles, pick up groceries, and carry them ~3ish miles home.   Jog/walk (realistically, mostly walk), and not bike, because it would be too hot to bike (those hills!) ugh

Actually, my exam started late, which was fine for me but apparently embarrassing for the institution that proctored my exam: they gave me a voucher for a free hotdog, chips, and drink.   Woo-hoo!  However, I rarely drink pop unless it's ginger ale or tonic water and so I was a bit bewildered by the array of pop at the dispenser, but I didn't want to hold up the super cool caf staff who were in the process of shutting down post-lunch, so I grabbed some mello yello.  Why haven't I been drinking this stuff all along?  But it'll never taste as good again: imagine trudging through a sandy forest with a backpack and the temps at, ugh (the humidex was over 40 C), and an icy cold citrusy fluid tricking down one's esophagus, its flavour and its chill both a gloriously artificial revolt against annoying, annoying nature.  It was amazing, even more so because I had a bag of Miss Vickies in that hand too--this left my other hand free to shovel chips down my gullet.  Unfortunately, the hamburger/hotdog substitute was already bunned/glutened and wrapped, and somehow Pandora never works in that part of the forest and so I was without tunes...but my situation was still AWESOME.

Until I got out of the forest and onto the roads.  I used to cut through a bit of the brush and across some communal condo property to get to a road, but the last time, I was so distracted by malfunctioning Pandora that I took a "wrong" turn somewhere, which led right to a road.  I knew I had to not overthink it to get to that way again, but I still messed up a bit and ended up on the disc golf course...anyway, I eventually got to the road, where I began to sizzle.

Jog?  nah

It was quite a long walk, especially after I picked up the groceries.  We're part of a farm co-op and we get a box of local stuff every week.  Now it's melon season...the advent of big heavy fruits and vegs season.  :/  No squashes yet, but they're coming, but meanwhile, there are small sacks of potatoes too!  Yay!

But it felt so hot that the wall sort of melted, I guess.   I just shut my brain off and kept going

going

existing in a formless fog of vague and remote discomfort

until I got home and had to cool off.  I had a killer plan: cold shower + ice + ethanol.

I also have a bottle of Pinnacle vodka at home, the cotton candy flavour.  Why?  I was in a bit of a rut, my toss back-feel not taste-plain old room temp Luksusowa, which is super stuff for purists/deep philosophical debates, and thus never boring, but a bartending relative recommended Pinnacle vodka.  When I go artificial, I really like to go artificial, and what's more artificial than cotton candy?  And the flavour is great, but it's not exactly accessible because I don't enjoy sipping plain vodka.  I tried it over ice, which felt insufficient, but when I got home today and started foraging in the fridge for electrolytes, I found a can of 2%.  This delicately peach flavoured drink is even more refreshing than Mello Yello.

What I ended up with was a ethereal wisp of cotton candy hovering above a limpid floral peachy words fail me.  NEARLY PERFECT.

Unfortunately, I'm now out of 2% and must find another accompaniment.

Take 2: a bit of peach balsamic vinegar, water, cotton candy vodka, agave syrup, and ice.  NOT BAD, except the colour looked dingy.  A drop of raspberry flavouring = LESS IDEAL (not a great flavour to begin with, not a great flavour mix, and not much effect on the colour.  A dash of cranberry juice = flavour change negligible, and colour improvement to a pale rose/peach.  I really wish I hadn't put that raspberry stuff in because it has totally bogged down the cotton candy gossamer.  Not all esters are created equal.  However, a promising approach might be to dilute the right sort of flavoured vinegar--a hint of sour is so refreshing.

---or maybe I should mix the Pinnacle vodka with Mello Yello ????  If this works, I'm calling it Fucking Long Walk.

I'm just walking here!

With my present repulsive volume of perspiration, my first inclination was to address the weather--it's especially humid now--but valour has spared us!  There have been a few odd bumps and squeaks in the garage today, and I was envisioning a repulsive rodent or paranormal activity, or something...well, turns out that a toad somehow got in.  Ever since I built the amphibian Thunderdome/koi pond in the backyard (incidentally, long story but fyi, I've been forced to research epdm-effective waterproof glue, and the answer is urethane), there have been more toads around.  I don't know how one got into the garage, but maybe my activities are curious enough to transcend species.

Anyway, I still have to recap all the runs I did back home, including two long T&T runs with Gaz, including a Cinderella rip-off Asian milk tea drink called Pungency (because there's already a milk tea called Regency somewhere out there?) and South Beach, but I got to get back to cramming for a final exam tomorrow...

So, anyhow, I walked the dogs this morning, felt horribly sticky and gross but eventually got through this barrier--I call it the sauna threshold.  Up to a certain point, I'm hot, sweaty, cranky, but then I accept this and my mind turns to detox and loosening up, and who doesn't enjoy a good sauna?  So I came back home and decided to amp it up, yeah!  20 min tempo on the treadmill, and then shoulder exercises, and then toad rescue!  And probably at least 1.5 L of water pounded.  A good morning so far, probably experienced procrastination more than anything else, and I really have to sit down and study, but I'm hearing more rustling in the garage...

.

How to recap a thrilling, multistage two week trip?

After umpteen concerts within a ten-day music festival, this is my auditory processing.  Just one part of several to experience a bit of fatigue.  Worth it.

little workout buddy

Apparently, my efforts in the garage intrigue a certain little reptile.   This morning, it spent about twenty minutes walking around the window and staring in.  Funnily enough, this is the first green lizard I've seen here.   I wonder if it's the same lizard that has been pooping in the garage.

Anyway, to sum up the week:

Monday, walk, chest
Tues: walk, shoulders
Wed: walk, legs

So, I'm focusing less on running (that 18 C morning spoiled me!) and more on power cleans--this girl does them so smoothly.  I still have what seems like a massive gap between the first and second pulls--I think I need to start the second pull sooner.  Definitely, I need to make some improvements before I put more weight on.
