I finally signed up. I'll be away for a week and wasn't sure if it would sell out in my absence: it's already 83% full.
I was going to do the 5K again but the new route for the full was too tempting. I'll take it easy.
I have some long runs behind me already but would like to do at least a couple more in the 20 mile range, and maybe one monster one in about a month's time. Meanwhile, I'll continue doing speedwork with the group after I get back. It'll be short runs and weights this week, and lots of fishing.
The dog and I jogged almost 4 miles today very slowly. There was some walking in there too. The goal was to get blood moving more and to loosen up; after a while things felt nice.

A very long jog
Fortunately, the good outweighed the bad.
The bad:
Frigid wind. The windchill was below -20C at the beginning of the run.
Fatigue. My legs have been tired all week. I've been doing more speedwork recently.
Discomfort. My guts have been kind of sore since January. However, the worst possible cause has recently been ruled out, which is a huge relief because I don't really fancy another bit of septic shock. I'm not quite sure what is going on, possibly wheat contamination of some sort, which is disappointing because I had gotten rid of that pain, but there are a few cooking utensils that I haven't replaced but perhaps should. Meanwhile, I'm supposed to see my doctor, I guess to rule out other possibilities.
The good:
The very good company of Gaz.
The very good company of Gaz and her willingness to stop for snacks. Looking forward to some snack or other is very inspiring.
Very good snacks.
Bright sun. I think my body is craving vitamin D these days though I have been taking cod liver oil.
Much wound up springiness due to a recent exam and big change of plans (upcoming move).
Snow melt. More of the path was clear. Exciting!
I jogged out of the house and then back into it for another pair of pants. It felt so cold. My legs were lead pretty much the whole way to the market building, which was about seven miles. Fortunately, Gaz and I were well-matched in pace.
First stop, juice bar. Turns out that the blends we bought complimented each other very well, and strawberry goes really well with lemon and running fatigue. Who knew?
Second stop, expresso.
Then we jogged around the Canal and then downtown; the path by the farm was reasonably clear for the first time this year.
Once we hit Somerset Street, the fuel options increased.
Third stop, ??? at the Persian grocery store. I'm not sure what the thing we ate is called; it's a sweet similar to Indian jalebi (??), a translucent honey-soaked thingy. Unfortunately, it apparently has wheat flour in it. I hadn't known and I hadn't noticed a reaction before, so decided to try it out. My guts were sore anyway! Things got a bit worse so I guess I'll jog down to the Indian store next time. Gaz also had some round things, also drenched in honey apparently.
Fourth stop, sesame thingy and pennywort juice (!) at the Bangkok grocery. They didn't have sesame balls so I got rice ball things with what I thought was peanut filling, but I think it was actually just sesame. Quite good. The pennywort juice was intriguing and very leafy and green-tasting, but not something I could get entirely used to today.
Fifth stop, chez Gaz. After a chat, and chat (cat), and stretch, I reluctantly tore myself away.
But I felt pretty good and still had a couple of the sesame things remaining, so I decided to take the scenic route home through the farm and back down along the Canal. The sun was amazing. I got a new surge of energy and my pace picked up of its own accord. And then I pushed it some more for the final three miles. They were between 8:20- 8:40/mile, not quite tempo pace or effort, but surprisingly tiring. considering how long I had jogged by that point feeling good (once the initial stiffness had worn off), it felt kind of funny to feel fatigue accumulate relatively quickly during these miles.
Total: 27.5 miles. That's the longest I've ever jogged.
I stretched and walked a bit this evening to loosen up. Will see how I'll feel tomorrow!

been a while
My brains have been claimed by science! Will get a bit of a break after next Friday.
Meanwhile, I have been jogging lots and enjoying it (apart from the wet feet these past two weeks: won't that snow just melt already?)
